Pan Africanism Today | Join RedBooksDay 2026

To All Progressive Organisations & Comrades Across Africa,
As we approach the 100th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s birth, the “Battle of Ideas” has never been more critical. Pan Africanism Today & Inkani Books invite your organisation to join us for #RedBooksDay 2026: Reading for the Revolution.
While we officially commemorate the publication of The Communist Manifesto on 21 February, our campaign will run throughout February. We are calling on progressive organisations to transform the solitary act of reading into a collective engine for class struggle.
Why This Campaign?
In the words of V.I. Lenin, “Without revolutionary theory, there can be no revolutionary movement.” Our objective is to move beyond individual study & engage with texts through the specific lens of African struggles today. We want to turn reading into a practical tool for your organisation’s program of action.
Starting with mass readings and discussions of the Communist Manifesto in their respective languages, Red Books Day has grown over the years to promote all Red Books, support independent publishing houses, stand with persecuted writers, uphold internationalism & underline the importance of ideological struggle in the liberation struggle. In 2025, more than three million people across all continents participated in Red Books Day celebrations.
The Call to Action: “Review for the Revolution”
We invite comrades from your organisation to contribute a political book review (500–550 words), a 2-minute video, or a photograph of a comrade with their favourite book. Submissions should focus on three pillars:
The Core Argument: What is the core argument being made in the book?
The African Context: How does this text help us understand the specific struggles in your organisation, community or country?
The Organisational Tool: How can these lessons be applied to your movement’s current programs of action?
How Your Organisation Can Participate:
Beyond the “Review for the Revolution” submissions, we encourage organisations to host public events to bring the “Battle of Ideas” to the streets and communities. Here is how you can mobilise:
1. Host a Collective Reading Event
Secure a Space: Choose a location with political or community significance—whether it’s your organisation’s office, community hall, bookstore, university, street corner, or cultural centre.
Pick a Text: Select a “Red Book” relevant to your local context. Ensure copies are circulated among participants well in advance to facilitate deep discussion.
Invite Comrades & Friends: Announce your event early to ensure a strong turnout from the community and fellow comrades.
2. Incorporate Education, Culture and Media
Art & Film: Organise an art exhibition centred on The Communist Manifesto or host a screening of a revolutionary film.
Performances: Mobilise singers, dancers, and poets to perform pieces that reflect revolutionary ideas and the struggle for liberation.
Popular Education: Host online talks and panel discussions to connect with comrades who cannot attend in person.
3. Amplify the Message
Social Media: Encourage comrades to post about their favourite revolutionary books, songs, and art using the hashtag #RedBooksDay. Be sure to tag Pan Africanism Today and Inkani Books.
Write: Submit articles or reflections to local newspapers, magazines and journals to broaden the reach of the campaign.
4. Connect Internationally
Join the Network: Stay updated and coordinate with international comrades by joining the Red Books Day Global WhatsApp Group: htps:/chat.whatsapp.com/G9ufdZV3Hf90ZwIAYLNw9b
Let’s Build the Revolutionary Library
We are seeking representation from every corner of the African continent. Your contributions will be published by Pan Africanism Today and Inkani Books to serve as a permanent resource for popular education. Reading is not just about words; it is about equipping ourselves for the class struggle ahead.
