This short book has been written to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the birth of Friedrich Engels, the close friend and collaborator with Karl Marx for over 40 years. This book is not a biography of Engels – there are plenty of those, of varying quality. Instead, it aims to outline, explain and analyse Engels’ contribution to a Marxist critique of political economy and capitalism. Engels’ economics has been sadly neglected, being lost under the large shadow of Marx’s Capital and his other economic works.
